WICKED : Mother exchanges baby with cement, rice and more

A 20-year old woman has been paraded
by the Imo state Police Command for
exchanging her 2-month old baby for
rice, cement, 6 chairs and the sum of

The woman, Chioma
Fidelis, confessed to the police that she
got married out of wedlock and sold the
baby because she could not afford to
feed him.

Chioma, a native of Ehime Mbano local
government of Imo state, said she had
no option but to accept the offer
because the baby was suffering from
kwashiorkor, and couldn't afford to
feed the baby well.

The mother confessed she sold her baby
because she could not afford to feed him.

A female accomplice, one Chidimma
Unakalamba, who was paraded with
Fidelis confessed to selling the baby boy
to a couple, Mr and Mrs Jonas Anyawu,
who allegedly wanted a male child.
Unakalamba confessed to selling the
baby for the sum of N600,000.
Though the baby has been recovered
from the couple, a mild drama ensued
between Fidelis and Unakalamba when
the couple insisted that they paid
N700,000 for the child.
Unakalamba then admitted that she
deducted N137,000 she spent on the
child’s medical bills, and that she gave
the mother N200,000 and pocketed the

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has
announced the arrest of some suspected
child traffickers in Yobe state on Friday,
June 16.

According to Army spokesman
Brigadier-General Sani Usman
Kukasheka, the traffickers were
conveying a total of 19 kids to Yobe and
Borno states.

A statement by Usman said the
offenders have been handed over to the
National Agency for the Prohibition of
Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for
proper punishment.
